There is BIG bald eagle news here in The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor! Let's start with this photo. That funky looking bird on the left side is an eagle chick. Ranger Bill observed this nest this morning and spotted it through his scope. You can see a parent toward the right side of the nest. Now, let's talk about the actual nest. It's actually on the smaller side and that is because it is NEW. This nest is in Killingly and the adults were spotted building it over the winter. It's exciting to have a new nest and at least one chick in it. AND, there is more! This new nest is actually one of five new nests Ranger Bill and his team of volunteer eagle watchers have confirmed this winter. That brings the confirmed eagle nests to 19 in The Last Green Valley. To be clear, some of the nests may have been around before, but there are a couple that seem to be new construction. In addition to the Killingly nest pictured here, the newly confirmed nests are in Mansfield, Windham, Voluntown and Thompson.

Happy Global Recycling Day! This is a good day to celebrate all the cleanup teams throughout The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor for all the work they do. You can see from the photos that a little recycling would go a long way to keeping the Heritage Corridor clean and green. We give out (you read that right, give out) funding each year to support these efforts. AND we also organize cleanups. If you are a nonprofit or municipal organization looking host a cleanup in The Last Green Valley and would like to know more, send us a message.

Too bad TLGV’s Home base, the (town of killingly rec dept) doesn’t seem to care about cleaning up our town. We have the most trash around town than any of our neighboring towns. When I suggested an Earth Day cleanup, it was negatively shot down!!
